Discover New Heights Of Flavour With Birchall Tea

Is there anything more quintessentially British than a cup of tea? Tea is at the very heart of British culture, we always make time for it. We’ve partnered with the experts at Birchall Tea to stock our venue with the finest tea on the market. After all we wouldn’t be one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds if we couldn’t make a good cuppa.

The story of Birchall Tea originates in 1872 with Birchall George Graham. Birchall served as an officer in the Duke of Wellington’s regiment; he spent some of his military life stationed in India, a place he became particularly fond of. So fond that when he left the army he decided to embark on a new adventure out there. Birchall used his savings to form his own tea company, the seeds of a tea dynasty were planted in the early spring of 1872 and Birchall Tea began.

150 years on and five generations later his legacy continues, the Graham family now trade tea across the globe and have extensive interests in East Africa. It is here that you can find their trading offices and enormous tea factory, situated in Mombasa, Kenya. They are now proudly positioned as one of the biggest exporters of black teas from East Africa.

The Pursuit of Quality

Their rich heritage and passion for curating the perfect blends of speciality tea, have seen them scoop up heaps of prestigious awards and accolades. These award-winning speciality and everyday black teas are sourced exclusively from estates across East Africa. Birchall Tea believes that to produce the best tasting tea, you need the best growers. It’s as simple as that. The high Birchall Tea standards ensure that all of the leaves are only hand-picked from tea bushes grown at high-altitude in lush volcanic soil. The result, a sumptuous cup of speciality tea that is bright, delicious and bursting with full flavour. Birchall Tea source the finest ingredients from around the world, with their care and experience they create beautifully balanced blends that allow you to discover enticing new heights of flavour.

If producing some of the world’s finest teas wasn’t enough, Birchall Tea are wholeheartedly dedicated to protecting and preserving the environment. Their new tea factory in Amesbury, Wiltshire is the UK’s very first solar-powered tea factory. The solar-roof installation features over 460 solar panels, which are capable of generating all of the renewable electricity they require to fulfil their day-to-day on-site operations. They have made significant changes to reduce excess and single-use plastic from their supply chain. With their products now falling under plastic-free or derived from plant-based materials where possible. They even found time to join the UN’s Climate Neutral Now Initiative in 2020 – the very first tea company in the world to do so. Their entire tea range is now Carbon Neutral. It’s safe to say that Birchall Tea is firmly positioned at the forefront of the green movement in their industry.

These titans of the tea industry not only produce rich, full flavoured teas, they support and protect the environment. As a company they were exactly what we were looking for from a supplier – passion for produce, heaps of heritage and high standards when it comes to sustainability.
